PalmaThe Department of Education approved the facilities of the Sagrat Cor school to launch the new 0-3 cycle, even though the center has started the school year with the classrooms that are supposed to host the youngest children still unfinished. Provisionally, the children have been placed in a space divided by furniture. Regarding the playground enabled for the little ones, the educators have decided not to use it due to the state it is in. "It is suitable for keeping animals, not children," claim sources familiar with the state of the playground.

The main problem, according to the families and the workers, is precisely this outdoor space. The new 0-3 playground had not yet been finished being cemented when the school year began and the ground has various uneven areas that can be dangerous for children who can barely walk. The photographs provided to ARA Balears also show elements still pending completion. The families have even described the space as "a prison".

The educators have communicated in writing to the management that they will not take the children to this playground while it remains in these conditions. When they have to go outside, the children use the playground for 3 to 6-year-olds, which has also been reduced because a part of it has been closed off to enable the new 0-3 space. According to the families, this closure is also not finished and still leaves cement and bricks in sight.

Architect's visit

Despite the state of the spaces, the Ministry had given its approval for the new 0-3 program before the start of the school year. On August 26, an architect from the Balearic Institute of Educational Infrastructures (Ibisec) visited the center and, according to the report issued the following day, verified that "the facilities conformed to the submitted plans". With this verification, a favorable report was issued to authorize the center with the requested configuration.

On that same August 27, the head of the Educational Planning Service also issued a favorable report on the modification of the Sagrat Cor's configuration to implement three first-cycle Early Childhood education units. The Education architect deemed the facilities suitable just a few days before the start of the school year. However, when the children arrived, the classrooms were not yet finished and the educators decided not to use the 0-3 playground. And this is the reality experienced at the center today.
