PalmaThe Balearic Technology Innovation Park (Parc Bit) was created in 1997 and opened in 2002 with the aim of diversifying the economy. The complex's objective was to become a benchmark space for knowledge, innovation, and technology. However, this ambition has been left halfway: in 2023 there were 3,000 workers and 200 companies, but the Government wants to "revitalize it" so that this figure grows to 30,000. This Wednesday, the Executive has signed an agreement to invest 20 million euros to build 120 homes there that can attract companies, and it also plans the creation ofan Engineering faculty in this space, as reported by ARA Balears.

The Vice President of the Government, Antoni Costa, has highlighted that these projects are added to the metro stop that has been inaugurated this year in this space, next to the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), which facilitates access to the facilities. "We must ensure that Parc Bit has the capacity to attract," he argued. Regarding the construction of a public university faculty in this space, he considered that "this is not only about attracting companies and talent, but also about manufacturing talent at Parc Bit." The forecast is to approve the project before the end of the legislature.

Coliving format

Similarly, he explained that the homes will be built in coliving format, with one and two-bedroom units, including bathrooms and living rooms. Additionally, the complex will offer common spaces dedicated to fostering coexistence and collaboration among residents, who will be students and workers. Construction will begin during the first quarter of 2027 and will have an execution period of 18 months. The project is being carried out under an agreement between the Fundació Bit and the Institut Balear de l'Habitatge (Ibavi). Costa argued that the project will allow for "facilitating the arrival and retention of qualified professionals" and will contribute to "consolidating Parc Bit as a leading innovation and research hub".
