Man arrested in Palma for threatening to kill minors on social media following a harassment case
The National Police have arrested a man accused of publishing an anonymous comment with serious threats against a group of minors related to a case of school bullying that occurred in Seville.
PalmNational Police officers in Palma arrested a man on Wednesday as the suspected perpetrator of online threats after he posted a comment on a popular social network targeting a group of underage girls in connection with a school bullying case. According to the Balearic Islands Police Headquarters, the post was directed at minors involved in an alleged bullying case that reportedly resulted in the death of another minor. The message, written from an anonymous profile, was posted as a comment on a news story that received significant media attention. The events date back to the second half of October, when the National Police's Technological and Economic Crimes Unit launched an investigation following a report of threats made via social media.
The user had reacted to a news story about three teenagers in Seville allegedly involved in a bullying case that resulted in the death of another young woman. Hiding behind anonymity, the man reportedly wrote a comment suggesting a plan to kill the girls.
The social network, upon detecting the threatening content, reported the case to the authorities, blocked the account, and deleted the comment.
National Police officers analyzed the full report and the potential dissemination of the message, which was part of a thread with over 600 comments on a news story that had surpassed two million views.
Finally, investigators were able to fully identify the author of the comment, who allegedly committed the crime of making threats using a social media platform. The arrest took place on November 5th in Palma.
