PalmPP's backtrack on Palma's capital city law, which is being debated in Parliament this Tuesday. One of the most controversial points of the law was an additional provision so that the Palma City Council can lower the minimum number of protected homes established in new urban developments. Nevertheless, the spokesperson for the popular party in Parliament, Sebastià Sagreras, has assured that he will amend his text to guarantee the mandatory reserves of 50% of officially protected and price-limited housing.

"For the PP, the reserves of officially protected and price-limited housing for the local people with the requirement of five years of residence, which must be 50%, are set in stone, and this will not be an exception when the law is definitively approved," he assured.

Sagreras has responded to the criticism from the leader of MÉS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, who has criticized that the reform of the law represents a new open door from the PP to "urban planning scandals." The ecosovereigntist spokesperson has expressed that, as it stands now, the law is "shamelessly" at the service of the "enrichment of the usual four PP buddies."

The law foresees doubling the resources Palma receives, going from 30 to 60 million euros annually, but also giving the city council more flexibility to manage urban planning. Apesteguia, who has announced he will vote against it, said he is in favor of an extraordinary allocation of resources to the city, but insisted on maintaining protected housing reserves in the city. "Where PP governments decide, there is no decision criterion set for where there will be no reserve of protected housing of any kind, which exempts some developers from this obligation," he denounced.

PSIB and Vox, in favor of taking it into consideration

For their part, the deputy spokesperson for the PSIB, Marc Pons, has announced that the socialist parliamentary group will vote in favor of the law's consideration, as they consider it an opportunity to improve funding. However, he has warned that they will present amendments to the text regarding urban planning regulations. The spokesperson for Vox, Manuela Cañadas, has limited herself to saying that they are in favor of the rule being debated but has avoided taking a position.
