PalmaThe highlight of the parliamentary session is the debate on vehicle limitation in Mallorca. The PP has pledged to pass the law before May 2027 and be able to sell it as a victory before the next elections. The consideration of the initiative will be voted on next Wednesday in the first plenary session of September, and it starts without any party against it. Vox, which is the most critical party regarding the proposal, has announced that it will abstain because it "shares part of the diagnosis, but not the solution".

This was stated by the Vox spokesperson, Manuela Cañadas, in a press conference. The far-right party rejects limiting Spaniards from other parts of Spain from entering the islands with their vehicles. One of the essential elements of this party's discourse is centralism: that there should be no difference between territories. That is why the group blocked the initiative at the Council of Mallorca for months, until the PP finally pushed it forward with the support of the left. Already in that plenary session, Vox moved from voting against it to abstaining, aware that it was the only party opposing it.

The spokesperson for MÉS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, has insisted on supporting the initiative and said he hopes it sees the light of day before the legislature ends, although there are "doubts". For its part, the PSIB has also shown itself in favor of the measures to curb tourist overcrowding.

The president of the Council, Llorenç Galmés, will defend the regulation during the debate on its consideration. The insular institution's calendar foresees its approval this autumn, in order to set limits on vehicles coming from outside Mallorca and rental cars before the end of the year, and to apply them during the 2027 tourist season.
