PalmPresident Marga Prohens maintained her harsh stance against irregular immigration this Wednesday and defended one of the most controversial measures she agreed upon with Vox on the matter. These are dental tests to confirm that unaccompanied minors are, which are complementary to the bone tests already performed until now in cases of doubt. As she reported to the Parliament, of the 209 dental tests performed this year, only 87 cases (40%) were proven to be minors, while 122 cases (60%) were adults. "Sixty percent were adults," Prohens insisted at the PSIB: "You wanted to mix these adults and bring them in with minors."

Prohens reaffirmed her position on irregular immigration in the second session of the general policy debate. The president announced yesterday that it will require at least three years of residency in the Islands to access different aids, which will exclude newcomers. After Vox spokesperson Manuela Cañadas accused her of copying the far-right's discourse, the Popular Party member defended that she has been defending the same position for some time, citing a Interview in ARA Baleares published in 2018, in which he asserted that "human rights cannot be guaranteed with the massive arrival of immigrants."

"This was my speech, and in 2018 Vox was not in this Parliament, I don't know if Ms. Cañadas was in Vox," he said. In response to the spokesperson for Santiago Abascal's party, he said: "In 2018, I didn't even know who you were."

Vox: "We will not allow them to steal our speech"

Prohens made these statements after receiving criticism from Vox. "We're not going to allow them to steal our discourse on illegal immigration simply for electoral reasons," Cañadas said. "It's not a question of capacity or resources: we don't want more illegal immigrants, more invasions," he asserted. "That's the difference between you and us."
