Porreres

The center of Porreres is under construction until the end of the year for the beautification and storm drains of three streets.

The City Council has published a document with the phases and dates of execution of the project so that residents can consult it.

PalmThree projects, three companies, a budget of €517,658.53, and just over three months to complete. Between now and the end of the year, the Porreres town center will undergo an improvement that will partially change its appearance in the ring formed by Agustí Font Street, the Hospital Street, the Santa Cruz Street, and the Plaza de la Vila area.

The work, which will begin next week, is of such magnitude and complexity that the Porreres City Council has prepared an extensive document for residents to consult. It was prepared by Xisca Mora, Mayor and Head of Mobility, and Pedro González, Chief Officer of the Local Police, to inform the public about what this project will entail.

In fact, the document states that they are "aware that this process may cause temporary inconvenience to residents, businesses, and users of the affected spaces. Therefore, they ask for "patience and understanding regarding possible traffic, parking, and mobility restrictions that may occur." The City Council has initially awarded a project in batches that will accelerate its construction and, in this way, be able to have the works completed by December 31, 2025, a requirement demanded by the same European Next-Generation grant.

Porreres was to carry it out with the aid of the Works and Services Plan (POS) for 2024-2025 from the Mallorca Council, with the condition that the works must be completed by the end of 2025," explains Martorell.

For her part, Xisca Mora adds that "due to issues of economic and also functional viability of the project's execution" they decided to put the project out to tender in three lots because in just one lot the company did not have enough staff to be able to" "cause much more inconvenience to the neighbors so that it would have lasted longer," she maintains. Coordination

The three successful bidders will reach an agreement and coordinate to begin simultaneously. By the time the project is launched, a mobility plan has already been established to address access and exit routes to the city center over the next three months, especially considering that the busy parking lot of the former bullring is located on Calle Agustí Font.

"All traffic modifications and affected areas will be notified to affected residents and the rest of the town with sufficient time to ensure they are aware of them," explains the mayor. "These will be complicated works; we regret the inconvenience this may cause, but they are works to improve the city center, repair defects in the pavement on Calle Agustí Font and the Hospital, which are in poor condition, but also to give priority to pedestrians and make traffic in the city center more user-friendly," adds Mora.

In this sense, one of the substantial improvements is the one affecting Calle de la Santa Creu. The City Council's idea was to wait until the completion of the ring roads before modifying this street, but with the granting of this aid, "we can't wait and must do it now to avoid losing the subsidy." "Many people walk along Calle de la Santa Creu to go to the library, Hereveta, the secondary school, and the Les Forques sports field, who now walk along the street; with this funding, we will fix it to make pedestrians safer," he explains. The project receiving the European grant is "the beautification, stormwater network, and paving of Calle del Hospital, Calle del Presbítero Agustí Font, and Calle de la Santa Cruz, and the improvement of sustainable mobility with the creation of a civic-cultural axis."
