PalmTourism Minister Jaume Bauzá on Tuesday downplayed the importance of the Tourism Strategy Agency (AETIB) survey, according to which 75% of the Canary Islands' citizens believe there are too many tourists. "The citizens are represented in Parliament, not in a survey of 2,000 people conducted in 2024," Bauzá said.

The minister also considered that the survey takes stock of the previous government's management, despite the fact that the PP came to power in the summer of 2023. "Does anyone believe that a 2024 survey takes stock of a year's government?" he added. "If it's useless, why are you doing it?" questioned PSIB MP Llorenç Pou.

Prohens: "Tourism grew wildly under you"

The President of the Catalan Government, Marga Prohens, also echoed the same point of view. In response to a question from Yago Negueruela (PSIB), she emphasized that, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE), 1.6% fewer tourists arrived in August than the previous year. "When tourism was growing wildly, I was with you; now we're redirecting the peaks toward the mixed and low season," she said. Asked about her promise last year to increase the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS), Prohens said that if she hasn't kept her promise, it's because the left "said no to the government's proposal."
