The Government will not implement measures to mitigate the effects of the war until Spain and the EU do so.
Antoni Costa meets with business leaders and union representatives to analyze the economic impact of the conflict in Iran
PalmThe Balearic Islands government is preparing a comprehensive set of measures to address the negative effects of the war in the Middle East on the islands' economy. However, these measures will not be implemented until the European Union (EU) and the Spanish government have put their own measures in place. This was explained by the First Vice President and Minister of Economy and Finance, Antoni Costa, in statements reported by EFE after meeting with business leaders and union representatives to analyze the economic impact of the conflict in Iran. Costa called for coordination between the Spanish government and the autonomous communities and, in this regard, requested a meeting with all the communities given the current climate of uncertainty. The measures the government is planning, he said, include a possible tax cut and a reduction in public spending, although he did not elaborate further. "These are the options we have," he stated, emphasizing the need to act with prudence in the current situation.
The PSIB calls on Prohens to join the 'No to war'
Likewise, the Deputy Secretary General of the PSIB, Rosario Sánchez, called on the Government to condemn the conflict and join the "No to War" movement championed by Sánchez. She also demanded the approval of an urgent package of measures to mitigate the price increases resulting from the conflict, similar to those implemented by the previous Government in 2022 following the invasion of Ukraine. Sánchez emphasized that residents of the Balearic Islands are already paying almost two euros per liter for gasoline. "This affects transportation, agriculture, and the cost of living," she stated. "We demand a proactive approach and protection for the people who live in the Islands," she concluded.
