Hotel in s'Illot evacuated after early morning fire in a room
More than a hundred people had to temporarily leave the establishment due to the large amount of smoke generated by the fire
Saint LawrenceA fire declared early this morning in a room at a hotel in s'Illot temporarily forced the evacuation of more than a hundred people on Sunday. The fire originated shortly after three in the morning in the bathroom of a room on the first floor of the establishment and caused a large accumulation of smoke that activated the emergency protocol.
Firefighters from Mallorca from the Artà, Manacor, and Alcudia stations, as well as agents from the Local Police of Sant Llorenç, the Civil Guard, and ambulances from the 061, were dispatched to the scene. According to initial hypotheses, the origin of the fire could have been a bathroom extractor that caught fire and began to generate intense smoke.
When the first agents arrived at the hotel, they confirmed that the affected room was empty, but due to the large amount of smoke, it was decided to preventively evacuate all guests from the establishment. In total, about 110 people were led outside while emergency services carried out the extinction and ventilation tasks.
The fire was quickly brought under control and, fortunately, there were no serious injuries. Nevertheless, a pregnant woman was attended to as a precaution by health services, while a hotel worker suffered a mild anxiety attack. A Local Police officer also required assistance for smoke inhalation during the intervention.
After verifying that the building met the necessary safety conditions, guests were able to gradually return to their rooms. The Sant Llorenç des Cardassar City Council has publicly thanked the emergency services for their swift action, highlighting that the coordination between all services was key to avoiding greater consequences.
