It is a symbolic pronouncement of the Chamber

PalmaThe Parliament's plenary session will approve next Tuesday a text from Vox to ask the Spanish government to prohibit the use of the burqa in public spaces. The PP has guaranteed its support for the initiative and, therefore, it will foreseeably go ahead. In this legislature, it is already the third parliamentary initiative they have registered on the same topic, although they do not have legal standing because the autonomy does not have powers on this matter. The text will also have no legal effects on this occasion, even if it is presented as a bill. It is a symbolic pronouncement by the Chamber that is part of the battle between the PP and Vox to champion the anti-immigration discourse.

"The burqa is a degrading garment for women, which goes against a safety criterion for all citizens," justified the spokesperson for the PP, Sebastià Sagreras. Vox's initiative is part of a set of texts presented by the far-right with the support of the PP in different institutions against this piece of clothing.
