Unemployment fell by 6.25% in June in the Balearic Islands.
With this drop, unemployment in the Islands has fallen for seven consecutive months.
PalmRegistered unemployment fell by 637 people in June in the Balearic Islands compared to the previous month (-2.5%) and stands at 24,722 unemployed. Compared to the same month last year, unemployment also fell by 6.2% (1,647 fewer unemployed), according to data published this Wednesday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.
With the June decrease, this is now the seventh consecutive month of decline in unemployment in the Balearic Islands. This is the lowest number of registered unemployed in a June since 2001. Since the beginning of the comparable historical series in 1996, unemployment has fallen in June on 29 occasions and has only risen once.
In the last year, unemployment has fallen by 1,647 unemployed, representing a decrease of 6.2%. By sector, unemployment fell in services, with 589 fewer people (-3.22%), and agriculture, with a reduction of 10 unemployed (-3.08%). However, it has increased slightly in industry, with another 13 people (+1.14%), while in construction it has remained stable.
At the end of June, the sectors with the most unemployed were services (17,711) and construction (3,233). In contrast, agriculture (315) and industry (1,158) had the lowest unemployment figures.
Regarding gender, of the 24,722 unemployed registered in June, 14,152 were women, 411 fewer (-2.8%) and 10,570 were men, representing a decrease of 226 in the number of unemployed compared to the previous month (-2.1%). Unemployment among those under 25 has fallen by 101 (-4%), while among those 25 and over it has decreased by 536 (-2.35%).
Hiring
In June, 45,084 contracts were registered in the Balearic Islands, 5.1% more than in the same month last year. Of these, 33,069 were permanent contracts (2.6% more) and 12,015 were temporary (12.8% more). Of the total contracts, 73.35% were permanent (compared to 76.14% the previous month) and 26.65% were temporary (up from 23.86% in May).
