Vox distances itself once again from the manifesto against gender violence in the Catalan Parliament
The text had to be read outside the chamber due to the blockade by the far right.
PalmOnce again, Vox has prevented a unified manifesto against gender violence from being read in the Catalan Parliament. The far-right party distanced itself from the text, which received the support of all other groups, and calls for "raising our voices against violence against women." As a result, it had to be read outside the chamber.
On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the People's Party (PP), the Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands (PSIB), Más per Mallorca, Más per Menorca, Unidas Podemos, and the representative for Formentera presented a statement acknowledging that "gender-based violence is still present and continues to claim lives, freedoms, and dreams." "We cannot allow any setbacks in the fight against this scourge that violates human rights and the freedom, equality, and dignity of women," the text continues. In the same vein, the groups proclaim "zero tolerance for any expression of gender-based violence," "silence and indifference," and "any justification that attempts to minimize or deny this reality." The president of the party, Marga Prohens, and representatives from all parties, except Vox, read part of the manifesto. The Vox representatives, who did attend the lighting of candles in memory of the 38 women murdered this year in Spain, left the room when the text was read. However, before that, the Speaker of Parliament and party leader, Gabriel Le Senne, read a short text requesting a minute of silence. In his address, he called for the implementation of "measures" to ensure that "all abusers, regardless of their sex, religion, or sexual orientation, are behind bars."
