If you think you're not racist, you might be wrong. To a greater or lesser degree, we all are. Some strive to be aware of their racist attitudes and eliminate them, others are completely oblivious, and some are proud racists. For your sake, I hope you're in the first group. The most problematic is the second, and it's in this group that well-intentioned and paternalistic institutions might be placed, those that speak of humanitarian causes and human rights, even though their grandiloquent words don't translate into action.

The Spanish government, which is supposed to be socialist, with all that this should imply, has recognized the Palestinian state, yes. A move that has garnered Pedro Sánchez considerable international recognition. But it was also implicated in the Melilla tragedy in June 2022, which resulted in 23 deaths and cast a shadow of suspicion over police conduct. Pedro Sánchez defends a humanitarian migration policy, but migrants arriving in Spain are deprived of their freedom and rights in centers like Son Tous in Palma, where the far right has celebrated the opening of an area for children and adolescents.

The Spanish government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, acknowledges that "everything can be improved." But the improvement is meager if it amounts to little more than simple tents in the port, about which no explanation is given: Will these people have any privacy? How will they sleep? Where can they speak with the lawyers who are supposed to help them? Will they be informed that they can apply for asylum, if applicable? Will they be able to explain their situation?

The ARA Baleares was able to photograph the tents, but only from the outside. Images that do not inform the public about how these people will be cared for. I know, there is a growing segment of the public that believes these people should not be cared for but rather kicked out.

Proud racists are a growing group, and our society is becoming sadder and more pathetic. As much as they may not believe it, racists soft They too contribute to this situation, those who are kind enough to give a sandwich and a bottle of water to these people who come from another continent and speak strange languages—some people don't know that most Africans are multilingual and usually speak French or English fluently. What a great favor, right? I'm mortified.
