ManacorGomila says she is leaving to pursue new professional challenges and that it was a decision she made freely and consciously a few weeks ago. Once the resignation was officially submitted, the next person on the Més-Esquerra municipal list is Antònia Pujades, who will assume the position as the new councilor at the March plenary session, "but that doesn't mean with the same responsibilities" that Gomila held until now, explained Mayor Miquel Oliver, nicknamed 'Avi'. "The councilor's areas require full-time dedication, being present... and at this time I couldn't manage everything the way I wanted. Out of institutional responsibility, towards the citizens, and towards myself," explained the recently appointed new president of Esquerra in the Balearic Islands and of the party's executive committee. "All these things are incompatible. Furthermore, I want to explore new personal and professional challenges."

"It has been an enormous privilege to be a councilor. I started at 24 and I'm 31 now. These have been years of great learning. I was already clear that I didn't want to continue beyond 2027 (when the next municipal elections are) because I would end up being almost 40. I wasn't afraid of turning 20."

She will not be a candidate for mayor

With this, Gomila rules herself out of municipal politics: "I will not be heading the lists to be mayor in the next elections."

Carme Gomila has been closely linked to Social Services, where she has been a political appointee until now. In fact, she had to manage the area during the pandemic, the most difficult time, but one from which she was able to make important decisions and resolve a complicated day-to-day situation. "It helped me grow a lot, both personally and politically."

"I think I've left Social Services more structured than ever. I'm very proud of everything we've achieved, especially the discovery of the remains of Aurora Picornell and the Rojas del Molinar women in the Son Coletes cemetery. With responsibility and without seeking the limelight."
