PalmCoalición por Mallorca will propose through El Pi in the next Consell de Mallorca plenary session that 15 years of residency on the island must be proven to obtain tourist places. It is a formula that, as its spokesperson, Roger Gotarredona, has assured, must "curb speculation".

The proposal involves reformulating the allocation system for the pool of tourist places and establishing criteria of roots, quality, and territorial balance, instead of the current lottery system. "We are in a context of overpopulation, and what cannot be done is to distribute tourist places as if it were a lottery," Gotarredona said. The party, which was created last November from a coalition between El Pi and Som Mallorca, is in favor of reducing tourist places. However, it has argued that vacation rentals "have been a tool for many Mallorcan families to supplement their income and better distribute the profits generated by tourist activity".

last November from a coalition between El Pi and Som Mallorca, is in favor of reducing tourist places. However, it has argued that vacation rentals "have been a tool for many Mallorcan families to supplement their income and better distribute the profits generated by tourist activity".

The spokesperson for El Pi in the Consell de Mallorca, Antoni Salas, argues in statements to ARA Balears that tourist places "must provide a social return". "We have all seen advertisements for properties with the possibility of renting tourist places, and here there is a problem," he explains: "Speculation by foreign investor groups." "It's time to stop making such liberal policies in a limited residential and vacation market," he argues. In this regard, he details that the 15-year residency requirement would apply not only to individuals but also to legal entities. "It is not against any Mallorcan, against any belief or culture; we have been multicultural for many years now," he says.
