PalmaThe Socialist Party today demanded of the People's Party of Sóller and the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, a clear and immediate condemnation of the aggressive threats by the mayor of Sóller, Miquel Nadal, directed against the socialist spokesperson and councilor in the opposition, Jaume Mateu. The socialist party also demanded that Prohens and the popular party request immediate explanations regarding the alleged case of prevarication.

It should be remembered that a court in Palma has opened proceedings against the mayor of Sóller and other councilors and former councilors for allegedly providing preferential treatment to a former edil of the party and owner of two establishments in Port de Sóller.

The secretary of organization of the Socialist Federation of Mallorca, Ares Fernández, has described this attitude as "absolutely irresponsible and undignified on the part of a public representative who, after his involvement in an alleged case of corruption becomes known, dedicates himself to threatening others instead of giving explanations and assuming responsibilities". "An attitude that should be eradicated from political practice, and that must lead to the immediate resignation of the mayor and the suspension of membership from the PP", he remarked.

Fernández recalled that the case is being litigated and that “it has not been the Socialist Party that has initiated this procedure, it has been a private individual who has filed a complaint against the mayor, and a court has admitted it for processing and has opened proceedings for an alleged case of prevarication and, therefore, for a possible preferential treatment of a former councilor of the Popular Party”.

For this reason, the socialist leader stated that “the Popular Party and Marga Prohens cannot look the other way. They must condemn these threats, they must demand explanations from the mayor and, if he does not give them, ask for his resignation and expel him from the party. They are late, they are too late and they must do it now”.

Fernández remarked that “it is inadmissible that the Popular Party gives lessons on corruption when it is the only one with defendants for corruption in the Balearic Islands”, and recalled that “starting now with the mayor of Sóller, but also with the president of the Consell d’Eivissa, who has been sent to oral trial for alleged crimes of prevarication, influence peddling, coercion and psychological injury to a civil servant”.
