Denounce "external scabbing" of municipal staff on Son Reus strike

PalmaUGT Public Services reported this Thursday that the strike in protest against precariousness at the Son Reus municipal kennels, in Palma, which began indefinitely last Monday at 2 p.m., has one hundred percent follow-up. The staff is complying in a "strict and scrupulous" manner with the minimum services decreed, despite considering that they are curtailing their fundamental right to strike, the union assured.

The trade union organization has denounced that various officials from the City Council's Environment area are going to the facilities to directly carry out tasks typical of the striking operators, in order to facilitate the volunteer staff being able to walk the dogs. The union understands and denounces this "direct interference" in the strike as an unacceptable practice of "external strikebreaking".

On the other hand, it also denounces that these City Council officials are "systematically spreading lies and falsehoods among the staff with the sole objective of intimidating workers so that they desist from their legitimate labor demands". Regarding the situation of the animals, the union celebrates that they can go for walks and enjoy their well-being, even if it is done "through a flagrant violation of a fundamental right such as the right to strike".

UGT awaits some formal communication from the Palma City Council regarding these walks.

For its part, the contracting company Athisa has already conveyed several demands to the Consistory.

The union hopes that a meeting will be convened as soon as possible, to address a definitive solution through dialogue and negotiation to this labor conflict.

The strike occurs after months of complaints about the precariousness of the staff in terms of salary and occupational risk prevention.
