They denounce that Cort tries to obstruct the regularization of migrants
MÉS per Palma denounces the "conscious boycott" and criticizes the City Council's institutional racism
PalmA group of workers from the Department of Social Welfare of the Palma City Council has denounced the "serious overload" suffered by the Citizen Atención Office (OAC), after having received "political instructions not to reinforce the service" in the face of the extraordinary regularization.
Ninety workers from the service have adhered to this statement sent to the press, in which they lament "the serious consequences" it will have for the service, since this situation will cause that "it will not be possible to respond" to all applicants "within the required deadlines".
According to this group of public employees, the initial decision of the management team was to activate "personnel reinforcement measures" to guarantee the proper functioning of the system, although it later changed due to "political" decisions.
For this reason, MÉS per Palma has denounced that the Palma City Council, governed by the PP and Mayor Martínez, is carrying out "a conscious boycott" of the extraordinary regularization process for migrant people. According to the councilor of MÉS per Palma, Miquel Àngel Contreras, "it is a political decision that aims to leave thousands of people out of the system. The PP uses the administration to deny rights to the citizens of Palma. We are talking about people who work and live in our city and they are being left aside. This is institutional racism".
For MÉS per Palma, this situation is neither casual nor isolated, but a clear political strategy. "The PP of Palma is applying the same agenda as VOX: making life difficult for migrants so that they cannot regularize their situation," stated Contreras.
“The Popular Party is acting in a completely irresponsible manner. Prohens and Martínez constantly attack migrants with xenophobic speeches. Furthermore, they apply it within the administration: they saturate the system, create chaos, and then use this chaos to justify cuts in rights. We do not want Palma to follow this path," he said. For Contreras, "Mayor Martínez has decided to compete with the extreme right instead of governing for everyone".
Contreras says that "the most serious thing is that they do not even listen to public workers". "Professionals say that the service cannot be guaranteed like this, and what the PP does is boycott them. When those who sustain the system denounce that rights are being violated and the government does not act, this has a name: institutional racism," said the eco-sovereigntist.
