PalmaThe second vice-president of the Government, Antònia Estarellas, avoided commenting this Friday on the arrest of two activists from Santa Maria for having made graffiti on a real estate agency. The Civil Guard handcuffed them in front of the cameras and accuses them of belonging to a criminal group. Asked if she considered the police action proportionate, Estarellas said she did not know "the details" and, in any case, the responsibility lies with the delegation of the Spanish government in the Balearic Islands. "It is up to the government of Spain to give its opinion," she said.

This is how Estarellas responded to journalists' questions about these arrests, which civil society has denounced for considering them disproportionate. With regard to the demonstration against tourist overcrowding scheduled for July 26, he expressed "respect" for the protest but also the Government's rejection of "any violent act or incitement to vandalize shops".

On the other hand, he defended the actions of the Government and the island councils to face the consequences of tourist pressure, such as limiting vehicle entry and freezing the number of hotel places.
