The PP wants to return the migrants who arrive swimming while still hot
The measure would consist of reforming the Foreigners Law and would only affect Ceuta and Melilla, where these types of entries occur
PalmaThe PP has announced that it will present a bill in Congress to amend the Foreigners Law so that migrants arriving by swimming to Ceuta and Melilla can be returned immediately. MEP and PP Deputy Secretary Alma Ezcurra explained that the party will propose this change following the Supreme Court ruling that prohibits immediate returns of migrants, but allows those made at border containment elements, such as fences.
Ezcurra argued that migratory pressure in the autonomous cities has shifted from land borders to maritime ones, and therefore, security forces need to be given the tools to "do their job" and return these people as soon as they arrive by swimming to the autonomous cities. However, this reform would not be applicable to the Islands, because in this territory arrivals are made by boat.
Nevertheless, Ezcurra insisted that the Balearic Islands "must be taken into special consideration" regarding migratory policies. "In the Islands, the migratory problem is growing extraordinarily," she stated. Regarding the diplomatic efforts that the Spanish government has announced it will make with Algeria, the country of origin of the makeshift rafts arriving in the Archipelago, Ezcurra defended that the solution is "multifactorial," with proposals such as "greater presence of State security forces," having "the resources, intelligence, and means of Frontex," and preventing migrants from receiving state aid.
