Galmés has hidden the Ibiza waste file from the opposition for almost a year
The regulation establishes that they have a period of up to 5 days from when another party requests information
PalmaThe Consell de Mallorca did not grant the opposition access to the agreement for the transfer of waste from Eivissa until it was forced to do so by a requirement from the Council of Transparency. Although by law it should have delivered the information to the socialist party within five days, which had been requesting it since July 16, 2025, it took almost a year to do so, after receiving a warning from this body.
This was denounced by the PSIB, which accused the institution of maintaining "deliberate opacity" and announced it would take the matter to the Transparency Council on May 4, 2026, having already exhausted all avenues to claim access to this information. Sources from the Consell de Mallorca assure that "access has been granted" to the file "when possible," although the Law on island councils warns in article 9.2 that it should have done so within a maximum of five days from when it was requested.
Sources from the socialist party explain to ARA Balears that the party requested access to the documentation on July 16 and October 22, 2025, as well as on March 10, 2026. Although the Department of Environment responded to the requests with interventions in the plenary session, it did not provide the relevant documentation, assures the socialist party.
On April 24, 2026, an internal complaint was filed, which also did not obtain the information. It was not until May 15 that it was directed to the Transparency Council to denounce the government of Llorenç Galmés. After receiving a request from the Council for Transparency and Good Governance, it finally yielded and granted access to the information to the opposition, as established in a document to which ARA Balears has had access.
Transparency already criticized Galmés for another request
The Transparency Council has not criticized the Council of Mallorca for refusing to provide information, but for not responding. This is the complaint of the PSIB, which has also brought other matters to the Transparency Council, because, it assures, it does not receive responses from the institution regarding numerous issues.
This is not the first time that the Council of Mallorca has faced a Transparency claim: in December 2025 it was sanctioned by the same body, because it did not provide information on the ITV and the bus-VAO lane requested by the PSIB.
