Llorenç Perelló, new Director General of Culture
Perelló replaces Ricarda Vicens in the position, who resigned for personal reasons.
PalmThe Governing Council approved on Friday the appointment of Llorenç Perelló as the new Director General of Culture for the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports. Perelló replaces Ricarda Vicens, who resigned at her own request for personal reasons, as stated at a press conference by the spokesperson for the regional government, Antoni Costa.
The Government has thanked Ricarda Vicens for her dedication and work during her time in this role and highlighted her contribution to consolidating the Community's cultural policies. Llorenç Perelló has a solid track record in public and cultural management. He holds degrees in Catalan Language and Literature (2015) and Law (2018) from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He also has two official master's degrees, one in Cultural Management from the University of Girona and another in Teacher Training from Isabel I University. Professionally, Perelló is a tenured teacher in the Department of Education, specializing in Catalan Language and Literature, and has taught at various levels. Regarding his political and management experience, Perelló has been closely involved with local government and the promotion of culture. He has been the mayor of Alaró since 2019 and has served as president of the Mallorcan Fund for Solidarity and Cooperation until now. Prior to his appointment as director general, he was the director of the Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB), where he coordinated policies promoting the Balearic language and culture.
Roman City of Polencia
Furthermore, the Governing Council has approved the proposal from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sports to appoint Maria Gracia Salvà as the new representative of the regional government on the Technical Committee of the Consortium of the Roman City of Polencia. Salvà, director of the Museum of Mallorca, replaces Catalina Ferrando, who previously held this technical position. The Technical Committee of the Consortium of Polencia is a key component in the management of the Roman site of Alcúdia. According to the entity's statutes, this body is composed of the president of the Governing Board and two technical representatives from each of the institutions that make up the Consortium: the Alcúdia City Council, the Council of Mallorca, the Balearic Government, and the Ministry of Culture. With this agreement, the Government directly links this appointment to the position of director of the Museum of Mallorca, meaning that any change or replacement in the museum's directorship will automatically result in the appointment of the successor as a member of the Technical Commission. In this way, the Government guarantees specialized technical representation at one of the most important archaeological sites in the Balearic Islands.
