Miquel Oliver resigns as mayor of Manacor in favor of Ferran Montero, who will replace him this Thursday
Oliver leaves to prepare the future elections as a candidate for the Council of Mallorca for MÉS
ManacorThe rumor that was insistently circulating through the corridors of the municipal offices has finally been confirmed. 07500 has learned that the until-now mayor of Manacor, Miquel Oliver (Més-Esquerra), has decided to leave more than half a year before this term ends. He is doing so to prepare for the future elections as a candidate for the Council of Mallorca for MÉS and to clear the way for his successor, the until-now councilor for Education and Culture, Ferran Montero, who thus takes over a role that, in theory, was to take effect at the end of May if Més-Esquerra managed to revalidate the trust of the people of Manacor.
It is expected that tomorrow at 12:00 PM the mayor Oliver himself will appear at a press conference at the municipal offices building to announce his resignation and the specific reasons that led him to make the decision. This departure also aims to benefit Montero, who will thus have a few months with more public exposure to become an even more familiar face in the municipality.
At the same time, the magazine 07500 has learned that the City Council will call an extraordinary plenary session at 7:30 PM on Thursday, October 8th, so that Oliver can make his resignation official, and immediately after, half an hour later, at 8:00 PM, the session will resume so that Ferran Montero can be named the second mayor of this term.
It must be remembered that, after a first venture in the minority that ended with a motion of censure in November 2015 after having won the municipal elections in May of the same year, Miquel Oliver has been re-elected as mayor of Manacor two more times, in the years 2019 and 2023, when Més-Esquerra once again started the term in the minority. This was the case until a year and a half ago when he ended up making a pact with the PSOE of Núria Hinojosa. Not very calm years for the municipal government team, which now finds itself in a new impasse with this sudden resignation.
