PalmaThe PP councilor in the Ibiza City Council Ana Ferrer Prohías has resigned from her position after the arrest of her husband in the framework of a police operation against an alleged drug trafficking and money laundering network. The Popular municipal group was the one who informed of the resignation, which Ferrer has justified for "personal and family reasons".
Ferrer communicated the decision to the mayor of Eivissa, Rafael Triguero, throughout last week. First she did it verbally and, subsequently, in writing. According to the PP, given the personal and family circumstances that the councilor is going through, the mayor had conveyed to her the advisability of formalizing her resignation, an option that Ferrer herself ultimately shared. The resignation will still have to complete the corresponding administrative procedure before becoming effective.
The councilor is not under investigation in this case. The resignation comes after her husband was one of those arrested in a joint operation by the National Police and the Civil Guard, coordinated by Europol and directed by the National Court and the Special Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office. There is no evidence that Ferrer is linked to the alleged crimes being investigated.
The PSOE of Eivissa had already demanded this Sunday that Ferrer resign and had asked the mayor for explanations regarding the councilor's continuity in the government team. The socialists had also remarked that Ferrer did not appear to be linked to the investigation.
Until now, Ferrer held the vice-presidency of the governing board of the Municipal Sports Patronage. Previously, she had been Councilor for Sports, a responsibility she left in October 2024, also citing family reasons.
27 arrested and four in Eivissa
The arrest of Ferrer's husband is part of a large-scale operation against an organization that, according to investigators, was dedicated to drug trafficking and money laundering of the profits obtained from drugs.
The operation has resulted in 27 arrests, four of which in Ibiza, and eight searches at different points on the island. The investigation points to a structure that had allegedly introduced cocaine from Colombia and Panama through maritime containers. The various smuggling operations related to the case would jointly exceed 1,500 kilograms of cocaine.
A central part of the investigations is located in the luxury real estate sector. According to the investigators, the network had used commercial companies related to real estate developments, urbanizations, and luxury homes to give a legal appearance to the profits coming from drug trafficking.
The operation has allowed for the blocking of 26 bank accounts and the prohibition of selling 70 properties and 16 luxury estates, in addition to seizing 40 high-end vehicles, 2 boats, 6 firearms, cash, and more than 1.3 million dollars in USDT.
The actions especially affect Ibiza, Marbella, and Madrid, where the investigators locate part of the asset structure of the alleged organization.
With her resignation, Ana Ferrer steps down from the position of councilor amidst the political repercussions of the operation, although the police investigation has not identified her as a suspect.
