The mayor of Palma reinforces Bauzá with Security and relegates Busquets to deal with the conflict with the Local Police
Jaime Martínez concentrates public order and public service under the deputy mayor and relegates the former head of the area to Innovation amid the confrontation with the agents
PalmDeputy Mayor Llorenç Bauzá will also assume the management ofCitizen Security and Civics Area In Palma, Councillor Miquel Busquets will head the delegated area of Innovation, according to the reassignment of functions by the municipal government decreed by Palma's mayor, Jaime Martínez. Thus, the Citizen Security area will no longer be delegated and will no longer report to the first deputy mayor, Javier Bonet, but will be integrated into the area headed by Bauzá, which includes Public Service, Natural Environment, Healthy Environments, and Markets. Martínez has now sidelined Busquets and Councillor Mercedes Celeste to give Bauzá more power in the Citizen Security and Public Service areas. The mayor's objective with this move is clear: to control the bitter conflict he has with the Palma Local Police, with whom he has gone from a cordial relationship to direct confrontations over unfulfilled commitments, according to the officers.
Cort has also changed the name of the General Directorate of Municipal Government to General Coordination of Public Service, which will be attached to Bauzá's department. This reorganization allows for the concentration under a single directorate of areas related to coexistence, public order, and the quality of the urban environment, responding to criteria of administrative efficiency within the framework of the roadmap established by the governing team at the beginning of the legislative term, the City Council stated in a press release. These are euphemisms to avoid explicitly mentioning the open conflict with the Local Police.
After Celeste's change
The decree also includes the previously announced modifications to the area overseen by Deputy Mayor Mercedes Celeste, which will now be called Finance, Procurement, and Heritage, with two directorates general: one for Procurement, Quality, and Citizen Services, and another for Heritage. Similarly, changes have been introduced in the area of Social Services, Education, Citizen Participation, Youth, and Equal Opportunities, specifically in the distribution of responsibilities among its coordinating bodies. Thus, there will be one General Coordinating Body for Citizen Participation, Senior Citizens, Intercultural Affairs, and District Coordination, and another for Education, Youth, Social Services, and Equality.
