PalmaThe plenary session of the Constitutional Court (TC) has postponed its ruling on the appeal for protection filed by socialist deputies Mercedes Garrido and Pilar Costa following their expulsion from the plenary session of the Parliament on June 18, 2024, the session in which the President of the Chamber, Gabriel Le Senne, tore up a photograph of Aurora Picornell.

The high court had planned to address the appeal this Wednesday, but the item has finally been cancelled and will have to be included in a new call, still without a date.

The two deputies maintain that their expulsion violated the fundamental right to freedom of expression and the right to participate in public affairs. They also consider that Le Senne ordered them to leave the hemicycle without any legal basis.

As part of the procedure, the Constitutional Court will also have to analyze the minutes of the Parliament's Board and the Spokespersons' Board corresponding to the days following the incident.

The episode of June 18, 2024, took place during the debate on the repeal of the law of democratic memory, when Gabriel Le Senne snatched and tore up a photograph of Aurora Picornell that socialist deputies were displaying. The events caused a strong institutional and political controversy.
