PalmaThe Government does not rule out closing access to the Serra de Tramuntana on August 12, when the solar eclipse will take place, which can be observed with privileged views from this location. In an interview with ARA Balears to be published this Friday evening, the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, warns that they do not rule out any measure to restrict the influx of people if the technicians request it. "We have not approached the eclipse as a tourist issue, but as the management of an emergency," she explains.

"We know that August 12 is a moment of maximum human pressure index," warns the president, who assures that the specific protection protocol ECLIPBAL has been created. "There is a coordination led by the vice-president Antònia Estarellas working with all institutions, because some issues depend on the Spanish government delegation, and others on the town councils," she assures. The Executive has also set up a website to follow the information about the eclipse.

"We prioritize safety and the protection of the territory," insists Prohens: "We have an environmental situation, with drought and high temperatures, which means we are at high risk of fire." For this reason, she assures that "all necessary decisions will be made and all necessary restrictions will be imposed, taking into account people's safety." "We are not ruling anything out," she warns.

Restaurants are already at their limit

Bookings at restaurants located in well-positioned spots to contemplate the sunset and the eclipse are almost full, according to the employers' association Restauració Mallorca of the CAEB. Among the most in-demand locations are Port de Sóller, Sant Elm, the port of Andratx, the Malgrats and El Toro area in Calvià, as well as elevated points like Puig de Santa Magdalena.
