PalmaThe Socialist Federation of Mallorca has requested the censure of the mayor of Santanyí, Maria Pons, following the words she directed at the mayor of Algaida, Marga Fullana, during the assembly of mayors of Mallorca. According to the socialists' complaint, the PP leader told her "I will give you a raft" in the middle of the debate on a motion on social cohesion and human dignity.

The general secretary of the Socialist Federation of Mallorca, Amanda Fernández, has shown the party's support for Fullana and has regretted that "offensive and racist" expressions are used in an institutional space for dialogue and municipalism. Fernández stressed that in this forum "similar expressions had never been heard before".

Furthermore, she criticized the role of the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, for not having interrupted the speech. Therefore, she has demanded that he publicly condemn the events and demand a rectification from Pons.

"Municipal policy must be at the height of the people. Not everything goes," stated Fernández, who defended that human dignity is also part of institutional responsibility.

For her part, Fullana explained that the incident occurred while she was defending a motion focused on social cohesion, the reinforcement of municipal technical and social services, and the regularization of immigration. As she detailed, the initiative was transversal and sought to strengthen the defense of human rights from the local level.

The mayor of Algaida has described Pons' comment as "completely out of place" and has regretted that a raft is joked about, also recalling that it is an element linked to the death of many people trying to reach Europe. "It is a disgrace," she sentenced.

Fullana also reproached Galmés for the lack of a firm response to what she considers "hateful discourse" and insisted that vulnerability must be faced with technical and human criteria, without turning poverty "into a war between neighbors".

"Vulnerability has no nationality. Social services must assess needs, not passports," she concluded.

In parallel, the socialist spokesperson in Santanyí, Tino Davia, has announced that the municipal group will present a motion of censure against Maria Pons in the next City Council plenary session. As he advanced, this will be the space where the mayor can rectify and apologize for words that, in his opinion, "do not represent the municipality of Santanyí".
