The PP has submitted a bill to create a new private university in Mallorca
The organization has requested its processing as an emergency measure, considering that the training needs of students in the Balearic Islands must be addressed.
PalmThe People's Party (PP) registered a bill on Wednesday to create a new private university, promoted by ADEMA, to be called the University of Mallorca. The party requested its urgent processing, arguing that the educational needs of students in the Balearic Islands must be addressed as soon as possible. The PP stated that this procedure follows up on the request submitted to the Balearic Islands Government's Ministry of Education and Universities, which initiated a process that was then transferred to the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport. The Ministry has already issued the required report necessary to move the process forward. "We support the development of new university projects with the aim of expanding the higher education options in the Islands," the party stated. "It is necessary to offer more academic options to students in the Balearic Islands and thus make it easier for young people to pursue their university studies without having to leave the Autonomous Community," they added. "This helps to reduce the impact of costs stemming from the island factor and encourages young talent to train and settle in the Islands," the PP points out.
Initial training offer
The initial academic offerings of the University of Mallorca (UMAC), which will have campuses in the cities of Palma and Inca, without prejudice to the possibility of establishing specific campuses in other parts of the Balearic Islands, will consist of official undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees, provided that the Governing Council, once this bill is approved, authorizes the implementation of university studies and receives favorable verification from the Council of Universities. In this context, the People's Party (PP) expresses its willingness to achieve the broadest possible consensus on this initiative with the different parliamentary groups, aware that the creation of the University of Mallorca (UMAC) must be a shared project that contributes to strengthening the university system of the Balearic Islands. The project is already underway in Inca.
In the case of Inca, ADEMA intends for the campus to offer undergraduate degrees in Architecture, Design, 3D Video Game Design, Sports Business Management, Sociology, Big Data, Political Science and Public Administration, a double degree in Sociology and Data Engineering, and master's degrees in Design, Design, and Design. The building, which previously housed Calçats Fluxá and its Loryc brand, is currently being renovated. It has 1,300 square meters and comprises four floors that will allow for the complete implementation of theoretical and practical classrooms, workshops, laboratories, and spaces dedicated to teaching with the latest technology.
