PalmaThe PSIB has bet on the party's current spokesperson at the Council of Mallorca, Catalina Cladera, as its candidate for the Senate elections. Socialist sources assure that negotiations with MÉS per Mallorca to form a joint candidacy on the four islands are still ongoing but are on the right track, and they hope to be able to announce that there is an agreement this very Friday. In parallel, the party has also decided that the current senator, Pere Joan Pons, will replace Alfonso Rodríguez as the Spanish government delegate in the Islands, following the latter's resignation to focus on the municipal elections in Calvià.
According to the same sources, the PSIB and MÉS per Mallorca are negotiating over two starting spots on the Senate lists, and the first belongs to the Socialist Party. On the other hand, the eco-sovereigntists could cede theirs to a representative from Podem or Esquerra Unida, depending on how the negotiations between these parties develop to present a single candidacy for the Congress of Deputies.
In this scenario, the party is betting on the name of Cladera. The position has been presented in an assembly and she has accepted it. This Thursday it will be ratified by the executive after the assemblies propose her name. Thus, the party gives a place to its island spokesperson, after opting for a change at the Council of Mallorca with the appointment of Amanda Fernández as general secretary of the Socialist Party of Mallorca, who is also expected to be a candidate for the institution.
Just this Thursday the head of the list for the Congress elections, Francina Armengol, expressed the conviction that the agreement with the eco-sovereignists will bear fruit. "We are working full time in this direction", she insisted.
On the other hand, Rodríguez's departure from the Spanish government delegation will take place once her dismissal is ratified, on October 27th. At that same moment, Pere Joan Pons will be appointed as her replacement.
