The Council of Mallorca will make two reports to find out the use that Pedro Bestard has made of official cars
Vox defends that Pedro Bestard use official cars of the Consell de Mallorca for personal use
PalmThe Consell de Mallorca will conduct two reports to ascertain whether the vice-president of the insular institution, Pedro Bestard, has misused the institution's official cars, using them for party events and private matters. As ARA Balears has learned, one will be prepared by the Secretary General of the Consell and the other by the Technical Secretariat of the Department of Environment. But there will be a third report: the one that the president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, requested from Bestard this Monday, after meeting with him to demand explanations. Galmés has also demanded that he immediately label the vehicles with the Consell de Mallorca logo and that they return to General Riera every day, where they must spend the nights.
Once all the facts are in writing and the reports have been completed, it will be time to evaluate what measures should be applied. But, for the moment, the institution awaits the documents before making any decisions.
The spokesperson for Vox in the Parliament, Manuela Cañadas, has defended that the vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca, Pedro Bestard, use the insular institution's official cars for personal use, which she considers not inappropriate for a matter of "economic efficiency". "He has an official car with a driver that he practically does not use, except for occasional events and when there is no parking in Palma. He has these cars [from the Consell] at his disposal. He makes trips to Manacor and Alcúdia, which are 56 km and 57 km round trip. And he lives closer to these areas," Cañadas justified, regarding the fact that he goes in an institutional car to his home after some event. "What he will not do is come to Palma, park, and go back," Cañadas remarked about the controversy surrounding Bestard and the official cars. The far-right spokesperson questioned "whether the parties making these accusations have the same agenda as Mr. Bestard". "He gets up at 5 am, starts at 6 am, and sometimes works until 10 pm, sometimes until 12 am," she added.
For their part, the left has reiterated its criticism against the Vice President of the Consell for "using the car to attend party events and for personal use" and has demanded accountability from the president of the island institution, Llorenç Galmés. "A public car cannot be used for party or personal events," stated the spokesperson for the PSIB, Iago Negueruela, while the spokesperson for MÉS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, stressed that "the use of public resources for personal gain disqualifies a person from holding public office." Both have called on Galmés to take measures in this regard.
On the part of the PP, Sebastià Sagreras highlighted that Galmés "has already asked his vice president for explanations." "We hope that Mr. Bestard can provide the opportune explanations," reiterated the popular spokesperson.
