Judicial Report 2025

Pending cases for a judicial resolution double IB-Salut's waiting list

The figures presented this Wednesday by the president of the TSJIB, Carlos Gómez, almost double the waiting figures in IB-Salut

PalmAround 200,000 people were awaiting the resolution of a judicial case at the end of 2025, a figure that practically doubles the waiting lists for public healthcare and remains stable compared to the previous year.

This is according to the judicial report of 2025 from the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB), which was presented this Wednesday at a press conference by Judge Carlos Gómez. In all the judicial bodies of the Archipelago, 200,295 cases were registered last year (+0.15%), 194,034 were resolved (+1.83%), and 120,891 remained pending (+8.84%).

In the civil jurisdiction, 88,635 cases were filed (+0.34%) and 86,145 were resolved (+7.74%); in the criminal jurisdiction, 98,238 were registered (+0.27%) and 96,071 were resolved (-1.89%); in the administrative contentious jurisdiction, 3,815 arrived (-16.32%) and 3,873 were resolved (-18.55%); and in the social jurisdiction, 9,607 were filed (+5.14%) and 7,944 were resolved (+0.34%).

Thus, 69,398 civil cases (+3.56%), 34,573 criminal cases (+19.83%), 7,031 administrative contentious cases (-0.33%), and 9,889 social cases (+21.23%) remained pending. Gómez has approximately extrapolated that these figures mean there are around 200,000 people awaiting the resolution of a judicial case in the Balearic Islands, a figure that practically doubles that of healthcare waiting lists and remains stable compared to 2024.

"This is a problem for citizens who want to exercise their rights," admitted the president of the TSJIB, who focused on the social and civil jurisdictions. These, he pointed out, are the ones that have the most impact on the average citizen, because they resolve problems "that everyone can have," such as a traffic accident or a tenant who does not pay rent.

The trial against Le Senne remains pending

In response to journalists' questions after the press conference, the president of the TSJIB pointed out that the trial against the president of the Parliament, Gabriel Le Senne, investigated for hate crime, is still pending a date more than a year after the investigation concluded and the opening of oral proceedings was decreed.

The trial against the also leader of Vox Baleares, he said, is not scheduled. Nor is there a date for the preliminary hearing to prepare for the trial. It was in February 2025 when the investigating judge decreed the opening of oral proceedings against Le Senne for breaking an image of the Roges del Molinar, victims of Francoism, during the Parliament's plenary session in which the repeal of the democratic memory law was debated – for the first time, as there has been a second.

However, the politician's legal representation and the Prosecutor's Office filed appeals against some of the magistrate's decisions, so the case was left in limbo pending a decision from the Provincial Court. The judicial body dismissed the appeals last June and, therefore, the decision that Le Senne should sit on the bench became final. Despite all this, the case has not progressed to this day.
