PalmThe works council, made up of CCOO, UGT, USAE, and FS-TES, and the Balearic Islands Health and Healthcare Management Department (GSAIB) have ratified the agreement in principle they reached on Tuesday, and the workers have definitively called off the protests in the medical transport sector in Mallorca. According to Europa Press, both parties met this Thursday at the Balearic Islands Arbitration and Mediation Court (TAMIB) to finalize the agreement in principle they reached earlier this week.

Union sources have indicated that the document, which includes the workers' main demands, has received the approval of both the works council and GSAIB management. It has also received the endorsement of the General Directorate of Public Service, which was to rule on whether the planned changes to job classifications were legally justified. Although the Catalan government has given the green light to these changes, it will now draft a report on the matter.

Specifically, the agreement reached between both parties provides for both central and scheduled transport employees who are qualified as Emergency Medical Technicians (EST) to be recognized as such. Until now, this only occurred with emergency service workers.

The agreement also includes improvements to mealtime breaks for workers—which had been causing problems—the equalization of the amount that different workers receive for per diem payments, and the company's commitment to stabilize the workforce by holding competitive examinations next year.

Although the agreement is now final, the company must now notify the three works councils—Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza and Formentera—of its content for worker ratification. Sources have guaranteed that this final step, which will take place in the coming days, will go ahead without employee opposition.
