PalmThe works council and the Balearic Islands Health and Healthcare Management Department (GSAIB) have reached an agreement in principle to call off the various protests that have been taking place in the medical transport sector in Mallorca since mid-July. According to Europa Press, both parties reached a consensus at a meeting held this Tuesday at the Balearic Islands Court of Arbitration and Mediation (TAMIB). Thus, for now, the partial strike scheduled for this Wednesday has been called off, and the expectation is that both parties will meet again at TAMIB on Thursday to see if the agreement can be confirmed and, therefore, the official end of the protests.

This agreement in principle, which addresses some of the workers' main demands, must be ratified by the employees themselves and by the General Directorate of Civil Service.

According to Bartolomé Nadal, head of medical transport at CCOO (the union that makes up the works council along with UGT, USAE, and FS-TES), workers are optimistic and hope that the preliminary agreement will finally be ratified.

One of the key aspects of the document agreed upon by the workers and the company is that both central and scheduled transport employees will be equated with their counterparts in the emergency service and will be considered Emergency Medical Technicians (TES).

This is one of the long-standing demands that the works council had been putting on the table and which it now hopes will be confirmed with the signing of the final agreement. Another issue included in the preliminary agreement, for example, is the equalization of the amount that different workers receive for per diem benefits.
