Caixa Colonya celebrates the laying of the first stone at an event that marks the beginning of the future headquarters of the bank and the foundation.
Once operational, in addition to its administrative and financial functions, the building will have ample spaces for social, cultural, and educational activities.
PalmThis Wednesday, Can Morató hosted the symbolic laying of the first stone for the renovation of the former carpet factory, a milestone marking the official start of construction work that will later become the headquarters of Colonya, the Pollença Savings Bank, and the Guillem Cifre Foundation of Colonya.
The event was chaired by the Mayor of Pollença, Martí March; the President of the Mallorcan Council, Llorenç Galmés; the Regional Minister of Labor and Public Service, Catalina Teresa Cabrer González; and the President of Colonya, Josep A. In their speeches, the authorities emphasized the project's importance to the economic and social development of the area.
The project, developed by the BAAS architectural firm of Jordi Badia and Erik Herrera, stands out for its commitment to preserving a highly valuable heritage site and recognizing the moments the building has experienced over time. The work, carried out by the construction company Melchor Mascaró SAU, is scheduled for completion within two years.
Once operational, in addition to its administrative and financial functions, the building will have ample space for social, cultural, and educational activities, allowing the entire municipality and society at large to enjoy this new space. This symbolic act marks the first step toward restoring a building that was declared a Listed Asset by the Consell de Mallorca in 2002 and is part of the municipality's collective memory.
