March 8th demonstrations in Palma, Menorca and Ibiza: schedules, routes and traffic disruptions

Palma hosted its first feminist march this Sunday morning and has another planned for the afternoon, while Menorca and Ibiza also organized events for International Women's Day.

PalmUpdatedThe demonstration called this morning by the Feminist Movement of Mallorca has already marched through the center of Palma. A second march, organized by the Transfeminist Coordinating Committee, is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

Palma will host two demonstrations this Sunday to mark International Women's Day (March 8), organized by various sectors of the feminist movement. The marches will depart from Plaça d'Espanya in the morning and afternoon and will proceed through several streets in the city center. March 8th demonstration in Palma in the morning

  • The first demonstration, organized by the Feminist Movement of Mallorca, will begin at 12:00 noon in Plaça d'Espanya. The planned route will pass through: Porta Pintada
  • Sant Miquel Street
  • Main Square
  • Marquis of Palmer
  • Colom Street
  • Royal Palace
  • Conquistador Street

The march will end on Passeig del Born.

The organizers have explained on social media that the objective is to defend the rights already won and demand progress in gender equality, social justice, and the fight against gender-based violence. March 8th demonstration in Palma in the afternoon

The second demonstration, organized by the Transfeminist Coordinating Committee of Mallorca, will also begin at 6:00 PM in Plaza de España with the slogan 'We will do it again, more feminist than ever'.

The march will proceed along:

  • Porta Pintada
  • San Miguel
  • Main Square
  • Marquis of Palmer
  • Colom Street

And it will end in the Cort square, where the reading of the manifesto and various speeches are scheduled to take place.

Traffic disruptions in Palma due to March 8th

The demonstrations will affect traffic on all streets along the route and their access roads. During the events, traffic will also be closed uphill from Calle del Conqueridor towards Plaza de Cort. PalmaMujer Popular Race

  • This Sunday also sees the ninth edition of the PalmaDona popular race, which will cause several traffic restrictions. There will be closures on: Camino de Jesús, between Andreu Torrens street and the cemetery roundabout.
  • Salvador Dalí Street, closed in the direction of the cemetery from the Miramar polyclinic roundabout
  • Calle del Uruguay, closed in the direction of General Riera from the cemetery roundabout

In addition, the exit towards Camino de Jesús from the Riera parking lot will remain closed during the race.

EMT bus detours

The various events will also cause diversions to several EMT bus lines. Between approximately 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, lines 9 (Palma – Son Espanyol – UIB) and 29 (Son Espases – Plaça del Progrés) will be diverted. Line 9 towards Son Espanyol and the UIB will travel along Comte Sallent, General Riera, Uruguay, the cemetery roundabout, and Camí de Jesús before resuming its regular route. In the direction of Plaça de Espanya, it will travel along General Riera and Antoni Marquès before returning to its normal route. Line 29, towards Son Espases, will travel along Salvador Dalí, the cemetery roundabout, Camí de Jesús, the highway, and then on to Son Espases.

During the time the diversions are in place, stops 757, 758, 708, 1002, 755, 756, 914, 994, 497, 498, 499, 621 and 500 will be out of service. ~BK_S

  • International Women's Day will also be commemorated in Ibiza with activities organized by the entities that make up the island's 8M Commission. At 11:00 AM, a gathering will begin in Alameda, Ibiza Town, with the slogan 'Justice, Rights, Action: Feminism,' featuring several participatory workshops. Later, at 12:30 PM, there will be an event in solidarity with the women assaulted in Sant Antoni a few weeks ago.

Minutes of the 8-M in Menorca

In Menorca, there will also be several events to mark International Women's Day (March 8th). The island's 8M Coordinating Committee has organized a gathering at 12:30 pm in Plaça de les Palmeres in Ciutadella with the slogan "Evicting the patriarchy, we build community." Initially, the events were to be held in Maó, but they have been moved due to obstacles raised by the City Council. Meanwhile, the Self-Organized Women of Menorca collective has called for a demonstration that will depart at 12:00 pm from Plaça de la Explanada in Maó with the slogan "To resist is to exist."

In addition, the Alcem la Veu association has organized a rally at 11:00 a.m. in the Cathedral Square of Ciutadella to advocate for the role of women within the Church.

The 8M mobilizations will once again fill the streets of Palma, Menorca, and Ibiza this Sunday with feminist demands, coinciding with International Women's Day.
