Computers, money and research: the Government's plan to attract new faculty at the UIB
The program will finance technological and research equipment for more than 100 teachers and researchers who join the UIB.
PalmThe Regional Ministry of Education will fund a new support program to facilitate the integration of Teaching and Research Staff (TRS) at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). This initiative, promoted through the Directorate General for Universities, Research, and Higher Artistic Education, aims to ensure that faculty members joining the university for the first time (and who have not been affiliated with the UIB in the last six years) have the necessary technological and material resources to immediately begin their teaching and research activities. The program targets departments that incorporate new full-time TRS, including assistant professors with doctorates from the Teaching and Research Talent Integration Program and staff hired with extraordinary contributions to compensate for the loss of teaching capacity resulting from the implementation of the Organic Law on Universities (LOSU). The measure will be applied retroactively from December 2024 and could benefit more than 100 faculty members and researchers. The Minister of Education, Antoni Vera, has expressed his commitment to public universities and to retaining talent through "dignifying the teaching and research profession." "This is the path we have set in motion, and the one we will continue to follow," he explained.
Up to 1,000 euros
The aid is divided into two lines. On the one hand, it covers the provision of basic office supplies, with the option of receiving a pre-configured laptop or co-financing of up to 500 euros to purchase computer equipment and accessories. On the other hand, it establishes supplementary aid for research materials, laboratory equipment, software, or subscriptions, financed up to 500 euros. According to the Ministry, the program will standardize the resources available to new faculty and reduce disparities between departments. With this measure, the Government reaffirms its commitment to research, talent attraction, and improving the conditions for faculty integration at the Balearic public university.
