Palm112 Emergency Services activated the orange alert this Saturday for coastal phenomena in Mallorca and Menorca, with waves that could reach 12 meters in height and wind gusts of up to 90 km/h.

As reported by the emergency service on its X social media account, the wave alert affects the entirety of Menorca and the Serra de Tramuntana — to the north and northeast of Mallorca —, while in the rest of Mallorca the level is yellow. Likewise, Emergency Services has also decreed a yellow alert for rain and storms throughout the archipelago.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) maintains the yellow warning for coastal phenomena in Menorca, with waves of 3 to 4 meters this Saturday. For Sunday, the warning will be raised and extended to all islands: while the Pitiusas and the south of Mallorca will be at yellow level, the rest of Mallorca and Menorca will move to orange alert, with waves between 5 and 7 meters, and gusts that could reach 12 meters.

Regarding the wind, the Serra de Tramuntana, the north of Mallorca and Menorca will be on orange alert with gusts of up to 90 km/h, while in the rest of Mallorca and the Pitiusas, at yellow level, the wind could reach 70 km/h.

In addition, Aemet will activate a yellow alert for rain in the Serra de Tramuntana, the north of Mallorca and Menorca, with precipitation of up to 20 liters per square meter in one hour.

Recommendations for the storm

112 Emergencies reminds citizens that, in the face of wind, they should avoid approaching stone walls, billboards, light poles, and high-voltage towers; close doors and windows; remove objects that could fall into the public thoroughfare; and not walk through parks or avenues with trees.

Regarding the coast, it is advisable not to access promenades, jetties, or cliffs affected by the sea; avoid water sports; secure boat moorings; and immediately notify 112 if someone falls into the water.
