Controversy among police unions over the accommodations for officers deployed to Mallorca: "It's a shameful situation."

The majority union, Jupol, accuses the state of forcing officers to pay out of pocket. The SUP (Supreme Support) criticizes the "malpractice" and defends the hotel, which claims to have acted generously.

PalmThe situation of the national police officers deployed to Mallorca from Valencia continues to generate controversy. The Jupol union has reported that several officers from the Police Intervention Unit (UIP), on secondment to Palma, were forced to pay up to 700 euros in advance to remain in a hotel, after the Ministry of the Interior only paid an advance for 11 of the 18 planned nights. According to the union, the lack of solutions from the administration has put the officers assigned to reinforce summer security in a critical situation, a situation they consider "shameful."

The union criticized other organizations for choosing to "whitewash" the situation and defend the hotel and the General Directorate instead of siding with the officers. It also lamented that it was the hotel itself that made it public that it was housing police officers, compromising—according to Jupol—the safety and privacy of those affected.

In response to these claims, the Unified Police Union (SUP) issued a statement slamming Jupol for an alleged "lack of ethics" and for carrying out "a poorly managed campaign." The SUP asserts that it has verified the information with hotel management and other officers and denies that there was any expulsion or threat of eviction. According to the SUP, the officers recorded leaving the hotel returned to their rooms minutes later, and there are currently around 30 officers housed there without incident, as confirmed by police sources.

The SUP also defends the hotel's track record, claiming it has been hosting officers "almost altruistically" for years. "out of place" criticism of the hotel, which they consider unjustified.

The union has also warned that hasty actions can damage the image of the entire police force and that poor union management can affect officers professionally. Therefore, they demand that criticism be directed at the competent authorities, such as the Ministry of the Interior, which has done everything possible to help.

For its part, Jupol has emphasized that in its initial statement it never mentioned the name of the hotel and has said that it was the hotel itself that revealed it was hosting these police officers.
