Cort launches a new tender for the exploitation of the Levante market
The City Council declares the Uva Wine Fest, which will take place on November 15, to be of municipal public interest.
PalmThe governing board of the Cort (City of Palma) approved this Wednesday the specifications that will govern the remodeling and operation of the Levante Municipal Market, which has been fully managed by Palma City Council since 1986. The bidding process will be carried out through a concession for the overall operation of the market, with municipal ownership of the facility remaining at all times for a period of time.
The future concessionaire must undertake a minimum investment of €1,454,566.04 to carry out the necessary works to modernize the market. These projects include improving the building's structure, renovating the roof and façade, renovating the parking lot, and reconfiguring the retail space.
Bidders will have three months from the publication of the call for proposals on the procurement portal to submit their projects, which must include a preliminary construction project and a business plan.
Candidates will be required to present a comprehensive project that guarantees the presence of fresh produce as an essential element of the offering and defines the sales lines and commercial mix, adapting to the needs and characteristics of the traditional market.
Specifically, the specifications stipulate that at least 50% of the spaces must be dedicated to the sale of fresh food products, and that 40% of the space designated for large retail stores must be reserved for food products.
Once the final project has been approved and the corresponding license obtained, the successful bidder will have six months to begin construction, which must be completed within a maximum of 36 months.
With this concession, the City Council's goal is to "transform the Levante market into an attractive, modern, and sustainable commercial space, capable of generating traffic and revitalizing the neighborhood's commercial activity," said Mercedes Celeste, spokesperson for the municipal government team, at the press conference following the government meeting.
Rainwater collector repair
Furthermore, the municipal governing board has approved modifications to the projects included in the contract for the renovation of public lighting and the repair of the rainwater collector in Platja de Palma, related to new construction processes and new lighting.
As a result of these changes, the execution period has been extended by four months, until April 23, 2026, as detailed by Celeste. The total amount of the modification amounts to €1.65 million—€1.44 million for the CAZ project and €210,300 for the lighting project—and an increase of €54,000 in the final guarantee for the successful bidder has also been approved.
Uva Wine Fest
Furthermore, the governing board has declared the Uva Wine Fest, which will take place on November 15, 2025, in Parque de la Mar, to be of municipal public interest. According to Celeste, the declaration was granted after assessing various circumstances of a "social, economic, and general interest" related to the festival, promoted by the Regulatory Council of Wine of the Land of Mallorca.
The Uva Wine Fest is a traveling festival that has been held in different parts of Mallorca and, for the second time, will be held in Palma, consolidating itself as a "highlighted cultural and gastronomic event for the city," said the councilor.
According to the spokesperson, the event "promotes responsible consumption and has a wide range of activities aimed at all citizens", including food and wine workshops, children's activities, promotion of Palma's emblematic commerce - especially traditional ovens -, restaurant areas with food trucks and musical entertainment. The first edition, held in Palma last year, brought together more than 15,000 people in the Parque del Mar.
Youth Project Foundation
Furthermore, the governing board has approved the signing of a collaboration agreement between Palma City Council and the Projecte Jove Foundation, which will allow for a nominal grant of €60,000 for the Community Addiction Prevention Intervention Project.
This initiative aims to strengthen prevention mechanisms and provide support to both people with addiction problems and their families through interventions in several neighborhoods of Palma.
Planned actions include awareness-raising activities, personalized guidance, emotional support for young people and families, training for social and healthcare professionals, and coordinated work with educational centers, social services, youth organizations, and neighborhood associations.
The municipal grant will cover 80% of the total project cost, while the remaining 20% will be financed with the Foundation's own resources.
