Cort projects a new Music Park of 19,000 square meters in Nou Llevant
The project, given for free to Cort by the Antonio Obrador Studio, provides for a large public space in Nou Llevant that will complement the future Music Box
PalmaThe Palma City Council and Estudi Antonio Obrador have formalized this Tuesday the donation to the municipality of the architectural and landscape project for the future Music Park, a new public space of more than 19,000 square meters that is planned to be built in Nou Llevant, within the scope of the Palma Culture and Innovation Bay.
The project includes a large outdoor amphitheater as one of the main elements of the new park, with an approximate capacity for 700 spectators. The space is designed to host outdoor performances and cultural activities and complement the future Music Box, which will be the headquarters of the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra.
The donation contract has been signed by the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, and the architect Antonio Obrador. As Martínez has explained, the park will combine green areas, spaces for walking and relaxation, sports, health-promoting and children's facilities, and new infrastructure for cultural and musical activity.
The project includes a grandstand with a capacity for about 680 people, a stage, and a large 19.2 by 6.72 meter LED screen. The amphitheater area will also feature esplanades and gardens, in addition to services such as a cafeteria, a bar, a terrace, and restrooms.
The future park will also include various facilities for daily use. The project incorporates a playground, a calisthenics and exercise area, a water feature, ping-pong tables, a climbing area, and pétanque courts. The proposal also suggests native vegetation and spaces for walking, resting, and gathering.
The Music Park is proposed as an outdoor complement to the Music Box. This facility will have a main hall for 750 people and a chamber hall with a capacity for 100 spectators. The City Council's intention is for the two spaces to allow for the development of cultural programming in different formats, both indoors and outdoors.
The project also provides for the possibility of building an underground car park with an approximate capacity of 285 spaces per floor. According to Cort, it could serve the entire area and also function as a park-and-ride facility.
With the donation of the project, the City Council formally incorporates the proposal into the development of the future Nou Llevant space. Cort maintains that the combination of the Music Box and the Music Park will allow for the creation of a new cultural and civic space in Palma and bring musical activities closer to the public space.
