Miquel Terrasa, after the conviction for the death of his brother: "Thanks to all of you who have been there"

This is how the letter that Miquel Terrasa has made public through social media after having been sentenced to four years in prison for the death of his brother in Sa Pobla. In the text, the man expresses his gratitude for the support received during the months following the events and dedicates words of thanks to family, friends, lawyers, and also to people who, without knowing him personally, have sent him shows of support.

Terrasa, who had remained silent after the events and until now, begins by acknowledging that he is not a person "who talks much or expresses emotions," but assures that he has felt the need to thank publicly all the people who have accompanied him during this time. Thus, he is grateful for the financial contributions from both known and anonymous people who have helped to contribute to his legal defense.

"Each and every one of them has been a great help in dealing with the legal expenses that this situation has entailed," he explains. He also thanks the people who have selflessly dedicated part of their personal and professional time to helping him with tasks derived from the case and helping him emotionally. And he especially highlights the gestures of affection he has received during these months: "A hug, a kiss, a look, a word of encouragement, even those shared tears that say nothing but express everything." "Thank you for accompanying me," he writes. He also remembers the people who do not know him personally, but who, as he explains, have conveyed "looks of encouragement" that have made him feel "understood and accompanied."

He especially thanks his friends, family, and lawyers

In his letter, Terrasa reserves a special thanks to his friends, for “being there”, “accompanying me” and “not letting go of my hand”. He also addresses his lawyers, Jaume Campaner and Irene Hernández, of whom he highlights their “professionalism and humanity” and having made “the possible out of the impossible”.

Family also occupies a central place in the text. Terrasa thanks them for their “unconditional love and support” and, especially, his mother, of whom he says that being able to continue every day by her side is what comforts him the most. “With all my heart, thank you to everyone for being there, for your empathy, solidarity, your support and the affection that you have sent me”, he concludes. “This life will not be enough for me to thank you for what you do. Thank you, thank you and millions of thanks, with all my heart.”

He avoided the jury trial thanks to an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office

The letter arrives after Terrasa was sentenced to four years in prison for the death of his brother. The conviction is the result of an agreement reached with the Public Prosecutor's Office, through which the defendant acknowledged the facts and it was not necessary to constitute the Jury Tribunal that was to judge the case and which would have significantly prolonged the process, which would likely have ended with a higher sentence than the one achieved following the agreement with the Prosecutor's Office.

The sentence was issued by the presiding magistrate of the Jury Tribunal, who convicted him for the crime of homicide, with the aggravating factor of kinship and the mitigating factors of confession and reparation of damage. According to the proven facts set out in the resolution, Terrasa maintained a problematic relationship with his brother, who was addicted to narcotic substances and lived with his mother. This situation, according to the sentence, had generated continuous family conflicts due to the disappearance of the mother's money and the alleged abuse the latter committed at the parent's home, where a couple of poly-drug users were also being sheltered.

On February 9, 2025, after a violent argument with his brother for these reasons, Terrasa went to the workshop where he worked, located in front of the residence, took a hammer and returned to the home where he struck his brother on the head, according to the proven facts. After the aggression, the accused himself called 061, requested medical assistance and requested that the Police come to the scene. The victim died three days later at the hospital.

In the agreement reached between the parties, the confession of the facts and the reparation of damage, materialized with the payment of 60,000 euros to the family as civil liability, have been taken into account as mitigating circumstances. The presiding magistrate issued the sentence in voce and the involved parties have expressed their wish not to appeal. For this reason, the resolution is final.
