Cort will evict and demolish the buildings annexed to the old prison of Palma
The City Council assures that it will coordinate the eviction with social services to offer alternatives to the current residents
PalmaPalma City Council has approved the construction project to demolish the buildings annexed to the old prison, which formerly housed the homes of the penitentiary center's officials. The Government Board has also initiated the contracting file for the works, which have a budget of more than 423,000 euros. However, the works will not begin until the people currently occupying these spaces have been evicted. This was explained this Wednesday by the municipal government team spokesperson, Mercedes Celeste, who pointed out that before starting the eviction procedure, it was necessary to have the demolition project in place.
According to Celeste, the eviction process cannot be started without having the action plan defined, since, otherwise, the project could be paralyzed. The City Council assures that the recovery of the property will be carried out "with all guarantees" and in coordination with municipal social services. These services will offer current residents alternatives for care and referral to available resources. "It would not make sense to carry out an action without having the next one planned," remarked the municipal spokesperson.
More than 669,000 euros to demolish a building on Joan Miró
The Governing Board has also approved, through an emergency procedure, the demolition project for the building located at number 43 Joan Miró Avenue, as well as its procurement file. The works have a budget of more than 669,000 euros. The property is declared to be in a state of technical ruin and the demolition will allow for the site to be cleared to build a new pedestrian path that will connect Joan Miró Avenue with the Mediterranean Square.
S’Aigo Dolça will open on October 15th
On the other hand, the City Council has confirmed that the facilities of the S’Aigo Dolça municipal sports center will become operational on October 15th. The Governing Board has approved the declaration of new construction and the establishment of the horizontal property regime for the sports center. The City Council formalized the municipal reception of the infrastructure on October 2nd, after a long administrative process initiated in 2018 with the approval of the project competition.
The works were awarded in 2021 and subsequently required contractual modifications in 2022 and 2023. The new facility has 10,117 square meters of built area, distributed between the basement, the ground floor, the mezzanine, and four floors, in addition to an independent access to the parking area. The sports center will feature two swimming pools, five sports halls, and ten changing rooms, as well as various spaces intended for sports practice and guided activities.
