A crane dumps debris from the Cala Corb construction site into the sea.
The Menorca Government reported this Friday a new episode of spills into the water.

PalmThe Menorca Government (GOB) has denounced the dumping of debris and leftover materials from the construction work on the Cala Corb pier. According to the environmental organization's Territorial Policy Coordinator, Miquel Camps, this is a deplorable act by the contracting company, and they therefore requested an explanation from the Port Authority this morning to learn about the construction project.
Camps has denounced that from the beginning, the works at Cala Corb have been very controversial and has pointed out that if they had been carried out with the initial project, which planned a treated wooden walkway, they would have had much less impact, they would have been much cheaper and they would have been finished years ago, since they started in 2019 and, they started in 2019 and.
In this sense, Camps has explained that the change of project from the initial one, made with firewood, and the current one, with cement, was carried out with the argument that with firewood the cliff walls would not support the weight, a fact that the GOB Menorca has denied, because in the hardness study they approved it.
Furthermore, the GOB representative highlighted the impact these works have had on the cove and the port of Mahon in general, an area of great environmental value due to its topography and the number of endemic species found on this coastline of the island. "Since they began, these have been controversial works, as we reported years ago the dumping of rocks from the cliff into the sea, an event that had a serious impact on a protected coral colony on the seabed in the area," he recalled.
Likewise, in response to the GOB's complaint to the Port Authority about the impact of these dumps on the corals, he proposed relocating them. However, the coordinator noted that they hope to hear from the relevant authority soon to determine the reason for a new episode of dumping surplus materials from the works into the sea.
