PalmThe joint taxi service in the Bay of Palma and the Tramuntana Mountains is now in effect in eight municipalities as of this Friday, with the latest additions being Llucmajor and Deià.

Nearly 80% of Mallorca's taxis provide coverage for this special tourist pick-up service, an initiative that is part of the Government's measures to promote joint taxi services in various locations, increase the offering for users, and improve mobility, as reported in a press release.

This scheme applies to Palma, Calvià, Llucmajor, Esporles, Valldemossa, Deià, Puigpunyent, and Bunyola, once all the town councils in these municipalities have approved the corresponding agreements in municipal plenary sessions and their respective resolutions have been published.

The incorporation of Llucmajor and Deià, initially planned, has been validated by the municipal plenary sessions and came into effect this Friday. Overall, across the eight municipalities, the agreement means that more than 1,530 taxi licenses will provide a joint service in these cities and towns in the Bay of Palma and the Tramuntana Mountains, municipalities that represent nearly 60% of the island's population.

In the initial phase, which began on July 30, it was applied in Palma, Calvià, Esporles, and Valldemossa, and Puigpunyent, Bunyola, Llucmajor, and Deià have subsequently been incorporated.

24-hour agreement and single rate

This collaboration, agreed upon by city councils and taxi associations, is part of the measures promoted by the Government to encourage agreements between municipalities to improve the service. It means that licensed taxi vehicles from the municipalities participating in this special collection scheme can load tourists in any other municipality adhering to this agreement and unload them at any point on the island of Mallorca.

This type of joint taxi service aims to avoid empty vehicle journeys, as has occurred until now when taxis return from a service in another municipality, and thus improve and increase the offering for users.

The agreement is effective 24 hours a day during the established season, until September 30, 2025, although it also provides for this special collection scheme to come back into effect next year, from June 1 to September 30.

This scheme means that taxi services between participating municipalities are provided reciprocally at all authorized taxi ranks in each municipality, provided that no taxis from the municipality are unemployed or there is greater passenger demand than taxis waiting at the rank.

The agreement also provides for the provision of services on a "show of hands" basis in certain locations in Palma, for example in the historic center, and in Calvià, at various points in Illetes, Magaluf, and Peguera.

In the participating municipalities, as provided for in the agreement, the reference rate for the island of Mallorca approved at the end of June applies. Among other things, a reference rate in Mallorca was set at €1.20 per working kilometer, €2.50 for flag drop, or €4.65 for the airport or port surcharge.
