Salut says that Son Espases' head of communication did not report and she replies: "The investigation depended on the manager"

This is how Sabrina Vidal, former Head of Communication at Son Espases, responds to the statements made by the Director General of IB-Salut, Javier Ureña, who has stated that the former professional had not reported the harassment situation she claims to have suffered during her time at the center to the occupational risk prevention services. Vidal directly points to the hospital's manager, Cristina Granados, and assures that she was told that the appropriate action was to create an investigation group, but that the manager herself was the one who had to lead or appoint it. "They told me not to report her, because the appropriate action is to form an investigation group to determine what is happening, and the manager herself is the one who leads it or appoints the person responsible. It's a perverse system," explains Vidal.

The journalist led the Communication Department of Son Espases from November 2024. This week she published a text on social media in which she defined herself as a "management survivor" and explained that she had experienced situations of workplace harassment. In her account, she states that during weekly meetings she had come to hear phrases such as "you shut up, you have no idea" and that, during the management team's Christmas photo, they told her: "Not you, you go away". Vidal states that she suffered anxiety attacks, received psychological attention, and was on sick leave for two months. First, she requested a transfer to another job and finally left IB-Salut.

The former head of Communication also questions that the health agency was unaware of what was happening. "I have emailsit is acknowledged that IB-Salut knows what is happening", he states. Vidal explains that, when he decided to take legal action with the advice of an STEI lawyer, they warned him that he needed to have previously reported it to the occupational risk services. He also considers it significant that IB-Salut granted him a change of center. "I asked to change to go to Son Llàtzer and they gave it to me, a sign that IB-Salut knew and made this change", he maintains.

The manager defends the greeting

Vidal's statements come after Javier Ureña stated this Wednesday that he has not considered dismissing the manager of Son Espases at any time and has defended Cristina Granados's career. "We have a manager with a lot of knowledge and experience, she has worked in many hospitals," said Ureña. He also assured that, when he travels to other autonomous communities, former colleagues or subordinates of Granados speak to him about her "in a very constructive spirit, with very good memories and with the feeling that they have learned a lot by her side".

Ureña has acknowledged, however, that at Son Espases "there have been some departures". He attributed this in part to the fact that it is the hospital with "the largest management team" and remarked that some of the departures that have been published "are not formally managers". "There have been departures, some proposed by the management and others attributable entirely to personal circumstances that we obviously respect," he explained. The general director considers that managing a center with more than 6,000 professionals, with a high budget and numerous services, "can generate tense situations".

No complaints

Regarding the case of Vidal specifically, Ureña has stated that IB-Salut had not received any communication through the Occupational Risk Prevention Service. "We had not received any notice or complaint from this person," he stated. He also assured that they were not aware of the case through the organism's internal channel, which this year has received, according to his data, around 2,800 complaints, notices, or claims. Ureña did admit that "technical disagreements on a professional level" with Vidal had been detected and that he was offered the possibility of changing centers. According to his version, Vidal changed hospitals and continued working there until he decided to leave the Health service. "From here, we thank him for his services and wish him a speedy recovery," he concluded.

The Minister of Health, Manuela García, has avoided commenting on the personal aspects of the complaint. "I wish her a speedy recovery. I will not comment on any personal aspect of any person," she stated. García referred to Ureña for any assessment of Vidal's work and professional situation and the knowledge IB-Salut might have of the case. The controversy also arises after the director of Management and General Services of Son Espases, José Antonio Visedo, conveyed his intention to resign after a year and a half in office. His departure adds to the other departures that have occurred in the hospital's management structure..
