PalmMore than 300 people attended the meeting on Wednesday organized by the Balearic Cultural Association and the Youth of Mallorca for Language to demand that the official celebration of Mallorca Day return to December 31st, as it has historically been.

The meeting, which took place this afternoon in Sant Jeroni Square in Palma, was attended by the president of the organization, Antoni Llabrés, and the spokesperson for Young People of Mallorca for the Language. Both agreed that the appropriate date to celebrate the conquest of Mallorca by Catalan troops is December 31st. "This day is the historical date that Mallorcan institutions have commemorated since the 13th century, representing the desire for continuity with the historical, cultural, and linguistic identity into which we integrated nearly 800 years ago," sources from the organization pointed out.

"December 31st is a deeply rooted and shared day, one with which generations of Mallorcans, prominent figures, and organizations from our past and present history identify," they continued. "For Mallorcans who share a common sentiment of defending our language, culture, and homeland, December 31st is the day to celebrate the true people's day of Mallorca," said the president of the OCB. "The Diada de Mallorca is not only a reminder of what we have been, but also an inspiration for all that we still want and can be," he concluded.
