PalmThe Eivissa City Council has sent the Balearic Government Delegation an updated report on the damage caused by storms Alice and Ex Gabrielle (so called because it was originally a tropical cyclone called Gabrielle), which raises its economic valuation to almost 29 million euros.

The mayor of Ibiza, Rafael Triguero, has insisted on the "urgent" need for the Council of Ministers to declare the municipality a zone seriously affected by a civil protection emergency, a request submitted weeks ago that "remains pending resolution despite the magnitude of the damage in the municipality." The updated report submitted this week to the Government Delegation includes the damage caused by both Storm Gabrielle and the subsequent DANA Alice, which have caused "significant damage" to infrastructure, buildings, and municipal services. The City Council, which had announced this week that the damage amounted to 25 million euros, has increased the economic assessment for damage to infrastructure, municipal services, equipment, and businesses to 28,970,673 euros. According to the report, damage to infrastructure, buildings, and municipal services totals €14,444,500 from Storm Gabrielle and €14,526,172 from Storm Alice.

The mayor reiterated that the City Council has met all deadlines, as all the necessary reports were prepared in just one week after Storm Gabrielle, and the information was subsequently updated with the damage from Storm Alice. "After more than a month and a half since Storm Gabrielle, Ibiza still hasn't received a response from the Council of Ministers. The damage is evident, documented, and the declaration of emergency is more than justified, so this measure is urgently needed, just as it has been granted to other municipalities in Spain," he said.
