PalmThe 112 Emergency Service has extended the orange alert due to a significant risk of rain and storms throughout the Balearic Islands. This was announced by 112, following a meeting of the Meteobal Plan Technical Advisory Committee, from the General Directorate of Emergencies and the Interior of the Government. The orange alert (IG-1 of the Meteobal Plan) is extended to all of the Balearic Islands starting at 1:00 p.m., after the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) activated the orange warning for rain in Menorca, where heavy rain has occurred in recent hours, and continued in Mallorca.

Storm Alice has left a total of 883 users affected by power outages in the Balearic Islands, according to the 112 Emergency Service. By island, 576 users have been affected in Formentera, after a lightning strike cut a power line.

Meanwhile, in Menorca, 272 users have been affected, the majority in Ciutadella (231) and the rest (31) in Castell. In Ibiza, 27 users have been affected by power outages, eight of them in Santa Eulària; 18 in San José; and one in San Juan. Finally, in Mallorca, eight users have been affected, all in Palma.

In addition, the 112 Emergency Service has recorded a total of 23 incidents in the Balearic Islands related to Storm Alice from 6 p.m. on Friday to midday on Saturday.

According to the Director General of Emergencies and the Interior, Pablo Gárriz, in statements to the media after a new meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Meteobal Plan, of the total incidents handled, ten were in Ibiza and four in Formentera.

Of these incidents, the most notable were electrical outages caused by the storm. It is worth remembering that, in Formentera, a lightning strike cut a power line and left 576 users without power. In Ciutadella, 241 users were affected by a fault. The total number of incidents is 576 in Formentera, 272 in Menorca (241 in Ciutadella and 31 in Es Castell), 27 in Ibiza (8 in Santa Eulària, 18 in San José de Sa Talaia and one in San Juan de Labritja), and eight in Mallorca, all in Palma. The cases in Ibiza and Mallorca are on track to be resolved shortly. Work is continuing on the rest of the ports.

Gárriz also noted that the ports are operating normally—there was an incident involving a boat in Formentera, but this was unrelated to the weather—as was the Menorca airport. The airports in Ibiza and Palma have experienced delays and cancellations.

According to 112, storm Alice continues to affect the Balearic Islands. Therefore, he asked for continued caution and the recommendations given by the Emergency Services to be followed in view of the probability of heavy rain forecast for this Saturday in the Balearic Islands, especially in Ibiza, Formentera, and specific areas of Mallorca.

He also asked the public to pay attention to updates on warnings from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in the Balearic Islands.

The municipalities affected by the orange warning for significant risk of rain from Aemet this Saturday, which in Mallorca will remain in effect until 8 pm, are Ses Salines, Santanyí, Felanitx, Manacor, San Lorenzo de Cardassar, Son Servera, and Capdepera.

In Menorca, where the alert will also remain in effect until 8 pm, the municipalities affected are Maó, Ciutadella, Ferreries, Es Mercadal, Es Migjorn Gran, Fornells, Alaior, Es Castell, and Sant Lluís.
